Welcome to BANANA CITY
Drawn insights by a second-generation Taiwanese Canadian
I’m writing a graphic novel…
It’s a collection of lighthearted comics that pays homage to the second-generation Asian immigrant experience, while also shining a light on Taiwan’s ongoing story.
“Banana City” was the title of a newsletter that was launched in the 1980s by a group of teenagers in our local chapter of the Taiwanese Canadian Association. Up to this point, I’d only known “banana” as a fruit. The term referred to us, the second-generation kids of our association — yellow on the outside, white on the inside. Along with Twinkie, the word banana can be used as an ethnic slur that refers to Asians who have either lost touch with or reject their background.
Here, you’ll find a few sample pages and behind-the-scenes sketches of my work in progress. If you are an agent or publisher, please let me know if you’d like to see my graphic novel proposal for BANANA CITY.
Make it stand out.

Dream it.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Build it.
